Rob McHugh and the Salvation Army were rolling
over the Icicles like Iraqi tanks over Kuwait for two and a half periods.
Then the coalition showed up.New
acquisition Nick Rao was playing great hockey against his former team. He
assisted on the very first goal of the game for the Army.
"I can see now I was the glue holding that
team together," said Nick.
It was 8-3 after two periods, as the Army
was clicking even without Mason in the line up. Things started to unravel
in the third for the red team.
Two goals by Jeff Lupien cut the lead to
8-5. Jay Sopp only allowed one goal in the third, and it seemed to be the
backbreaker as Mel Fiore set up Fab.
Fab though would go minus five for the
period, or so it seemed. Two goals by Jim Caeren would cut the lead to
9-7, then two goals in the final minute of play by Shaky Fowler would
complete the comeback for the Icicles and the choke for the Army.
In the shootout though McHugh found his B
game. He stopped two out of three shots, and that would be good enough for
the shootout win.
It's a good thing too because Fab and Farrell
nearly started to argue.
Bryan Marshall was instrumental as an Icicle
sub in the loss.
