Dennis McGonagle and Rick Olson scored
shorthandged goals just 25 seconds apart as the Army powerplay unit stood
and watched, and that first period lapse would set the tone for another
lackluster game for the Army.The
Army did have the lead in this game, in fact several leads. None lasted
much longer than a few minutes thought.
This included a 10-9 led in the third
period. But Dennis' 4th goal of the game with 2:50 to play would tie the
game for good.
Smack scored on his shootout attempt, but
Armstrong and Hack Jones both were stopped by sub goalie Kenny P.
After sub Jay Surrette went useless on his
shootout attempt, Steve Farrell scored, and that gave Mel Fiore a chance
to win it. But he was stopped by Guimond, and the 6th and 8th place teams
would have to settle for a tie.
"Well, we lost to both the 6th and 7th
place teams today," said Armstrong. "Safe to say we can't beat anyone in
the league if Olson's only going to score one goal for us."
