Who needs Conley and Downie when Gardner can
sub in, score multiple goals and take a penalty.
Isn't that pretty much what Conley and Downie would have done for the Misfits ?
The winless Wise Men were without Murf, and
that's usually a good thing. They pretty much scored at will on Hajen, and
they needed just about every one of the 14 goals to get the win.
It was 6-4 after one period, yup 10 goals
in 18 minutes.
The lead ballooned to 11-6 Wise Men,
including a four goal in a two minute span outburst, which made sub John
Houlihan look more like Marcel Dionne.
"You can't win a game if you let Houlihan
score four times," said sub Gardner.
But the Misfits rallied to close the gap to
just 12-10 with 4:00 to play, no thanks to Chris Jones and his multiple
open net misses.
Ryan Rizzo though was struggling though, as
was sub Mike Gaff, and the Misfits couldn't draw any closer, as neither
could set up a wide open Koz down the stretch.
The Wise Men are a perfect 1-0 when Pete
Paperno shows up.
