The Grinches got Steve Philbrook as a huge sub upgrade, but when you get outcoached, you get outcoached. Apparently Mike McDonald didn't put his sub to good use. You are supposed to let Philbrook play the entire third period, for example. Instead McDonald kept BSP on the bench for the entire third period, or atleast it seemed that way. The green team got off to a great start as they scored five goals on just ten shots in the first period. At one point they scored on 4 consecutive shots. Rob McHugh though would settle down after that, and not allow a goal for the rest of the game. Weird. Down 5-1, the Army got a goal by Fab to cut the lead to a manageable 5-2. Gardner would then score one and assist on two, while Farrell scored two and assisted on one, as the red Army completed the comeback. A rare goal by Pete Norton would put them up to stay with 1:51 left in the middle period. Fab would bank one in off of Fitzy's sub as the shot from center went wide then caromed in off the back of AK's pads for a goal, and the 7-5 final.
After the game Dave Niemi was reminding
everyone about his sweet first period goal. |
