The idea was simple; surround Fab with true passers like Farrell, Gardner, and Norton, with hopes it would be a monkey-see monkey-do scenario. It didn't work perfectly, but the plan worked well enough to get the Salvation Army a 13-8 win opening day. "Yeah, they may pass alot, but with the four of us on one line, the age total was like 175," said Fab. If not for youngsters Devin Potvin, the Army's average age may be well above 40. Devin played very well in his first EMRHL game, picking up three assists and playing well in both halves of the court. "I was expecting a nightmare with the new guy," said Gardner. "You all remember how Raymond and Mason played in their first game. But Devin played really well and kept up with the play at all times." Speaking of the 8th and 9th round picks, it was ironically Mason and Raymond who sparked the Army several times to overcome deficits. Raymond finished with four goals and Mason three if you can believe it. And they needed everyone one of them after the rough start each goalie had. It took all of 5 seconds to score on Rob McHugh. A minute later Justin Guimond allowed the tying goal. Yeah it was that type of game. For the Wise Men Dan Armstrong was untouchable. Six goals for Dan, all beauties. Too bad he's got Murf on defense. Andy Samel returned to the E this season, and he kept taking the ball away from the guys in red. "I can't get around that guy!!!" exclaimed Norton.
Perhaps next week Dennis and Smack can
contribute for the Wise Men. |
